Auckland events in January
Rick walked to West Haven to view the
foil sail boats ready to compete in international sailing events. The Australians emerged victorious.
Three hours before the event begins
crowds gather. Australia’s vessel appears
ready. New Zealand struggled and missed
placing in the final. USA was
consistently among the final boats to cross the finish line.
A closer look at the foils. The sailors tether one leg to the
vessel. Watching them run back and forth
across the boat was exhausting. We tried
to catch a peak at the final race from our balcony. When that didn’t work, we turned on the TV to
join in the racing fever with the fans.
Seats in the bleachers along the bay were $350 per couple.
Several fans line the sides of a
personal boat in the bay. What a perfect
view of the entire competition.
Apparently, several boat owners shared the same idea.
A unique fruit on one side of our
complex. The color is beautiful, the
flavor is dry and tasteless. I don’t
know the name of the fruit.
The emu at Sheepworld.
Such a variety of piglets. I like the leopard look.
The tiny goats were cute and lively.
Alpacas – they stare and chew,
unfazed by the crowds. More on my visit
to Sheepworld at a later date.
Shakespeare Beach
The surrounding park and beach.
Our ward hosted a Saturday picnic at the beach. The location can’t be topped. The camping area is lush, green, many tall trees provide pleasant shade. Walking to the beach requires only 10 steps.
I waded in shallow water while Rick
swam. He claimed the water was perfectly
refreshing. Driving to Shakespeare Park is
one of my favorites. I enjoy the winding
road that constantly allows views of the ocean as we finally reach the park on
the peninsula.
